August 17

Pray for one another, that you may be healed.

James 5:16

Morning

Pray for one another, that you may be healed.

Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: Suppose there were five less than the fifty righteous; would You destroy all of the city for lack of five?” So He said, “If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it.”

Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. § Pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.

I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours … I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word. § Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.

James 5:16; Gen. 18:27–28; Luke 23:34; Matt. 5:44;
John 17:9, 20; Gal. 6:2; James 5:16–17

Evening

As for man, his days are like grass;
as a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
For the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
and its place remembers it no more.

So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. § What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

Surely the people are grass. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever. § The world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. § Use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away. § Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
