Aaron taught from Luke 24:1-12 on Easter Sunday, a sermon titled “The Empty Tomb”. • You said that if we can share our story and remember “God–Man–Christ–Response,” we’re already theologians. For everyday believers who feel fear entering into conversations we feel ill-equipped, what does it look like to grow in knowledge in a healthy way, while still remembering that we’re not the ones responsible for saving anyone?
• There is a distinction between compulsory authority and influential authority: specifically that Jesus has all authority, but He doesn’t force belief. How should we understand that alongside passages that say no one comes to faith in Jesus unless the Father draws them? If God is the one who ultimately draws and saves, what exactly is our role?
• Where do you both tend to lean? Toward retreating and staying quiet, or toward going ALL CAPS? And what does it look like to pull back toward the middle?
• If someone had clarity and courage but not integrity, what happens? Why is integrity such a non-negotiable companion to gospel proclamation?
• At the end of the day, we can speak clearly and even boldly, but if we’re not delighting in the gospel- we’ve missed the “why.” What’s the difference between being compelled by guilt or pressure versus being compelled by joy in the gospel? And how can we tell which one is driving us?

When we’re young, it’s easy to feel like there’s plenty of time ahead of us, so numbering our days barely crosses our mind. In the middle of life—juggling work, family, or ministry—it can feel like there’s never enough time, and eternity feels distant. And later on, we might start to wonder if our best years of serving or making a difference are behind us.
But Moses’ prayer in Psalm 90, “teach us to number our days” and “establish the work of our hands,” invites us—at every age—to live intentionally for whatever God has called you to do

In this week’s episode, Haley is joined by Operations Director Dave Young and Calder Marriott- our Church Planting Resident. We discuss a sermon preached by Matt Brown from Skyline Church in Denver, CO. Matt was our visiting pastor last Sunday and preached a sermon titled “Expect the Unexpected” (listen HERE), using excerpts from Acts 12&13. We used this sermon as a launching place for a subject near and dear to MVCC’s heart- church planting!

1. Matt challenged us to think about whether we’re really open-handed with our lives or holding too tightly to our own plans. From where you are now, in full-time ministry, how have you wrestled with the tension of letting go of your plans to follow God’s call? Have there been moments where God redirected you in ways you didn’t expect, but ultimately saw His goodness in it?
2. In Acts 13, we see the church praying and sending people out- Our church has a pretty strong history of sending people out to plant new churches—but how do we actually decide where to plant? Is it more about a specific person sensing a call to a place, or does our network look for certain kinds of cities, like college towns? What factors go into that process?
3. As we talk about being open to God’s leading, we know there are people in our church who might feel God stirring something new in them but are hesitant to step into the unknown. What’s one encouragement you’d offer to someone who senses that calling but isn’t sure what to do next? Similarly, what about the person who doesn’t feel the calling to go? How do they be faithful in being the one to send?
4. Calder, can you share about the vision for the Boulder, CO church plant coming in the next few years? What specific ways can our church body be praying for you and your team?

• How explicit do you think the Church in the United States and in particular Mountain View should be in sharing recommendations on political policy and candidates from the pulpit?
• What would you say to a believer who believes that the USA is God’s chosen nation? This thinking impacts a lot of politics and policies.
• What would you say to someone who says, “I don’t support gay marriage or using/abusing drugs because of my biblical convictions. However, I also don’t believe it’s the government’s role to regulate such things, therefore, when those ballot issues come up, I tend to vote against government oversight.” If America is not a Christian nation, is it fair to push out laws that enforce Christian values (like making gay marriage illegal)?
• We have talked about how when we vote, we are voting for the person and their character. What should we do when the person and their character don’t align with our values, but the polices that we are passionate about and believe in will best be upheld by that person?
• How should I feel about voting for the independent party? I cannot vote for a candidate who promises to reinstate roe v wade, but the character and chaos that follows the opposing party also seems unwise to promote. This leads me to the independent party, which seems better than choosing to not vote at all, but some still say is the same as not voting. How would you all lead in this?
• I think the hardest challenge for Christian voters (or any voters) is, how do I know what is true about these candidates or issues? Where should we turn for information? How can we feel some confidence in our sources?

• I don’t know about you guys, but I often find peace once the decision is made but the journey leading to that decision feels often times really stressful. I just want to make sure I’m making the right choice and thinking through things properly so how do both of you find peace in the decision-making process – whether that’s big or small decisions?
• Aaron, it was so good when you said “we’re not just a citizen in the kingdom of God we’re also a part of the leadership structure”. How often we forget the privilege that this is! When you said less than 50% of Christians are registered voters, that feels like a slap in the face to the opportunity God has given us. When did both of you realize that voting was important?
