As one of the franchise’s famed musical interludes says: “If you’re gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough.”
Sure enough, that encapsulates the Jackass ethos in a nutshell; the cast, over the years, has endured the physical wringer in the name of our entertainment, racking up a lengthy list of injuries, surgeries, and medical bills.
Maybe there was trepidation in the cast while making Jackass Forever, with most of the cast in their 40s and 50s now. Director Jeff Tremaine openly asked if audiences would be interested in watching a bunch of middle-aged dudes performing dangerous and disgusting stunts. Though, the reaction to the first trailer indicated they would, definitely.
Johnny Knoxville and the gang have suffered for their art. A new study (commissioned by Nova Legal Funding) states that, since the show began, the Jackass ensemble has experienced enough injuries to warrant medical treatment estimated at $24 million.
On an individual basis, it shouldn’t surprise fans that over $8 million was attributed to Knoxville alone. In fact, close to $22 million of the entire estimate was accumulated by the Jackass ringleader, Ehren McGhehey and Steve-O. Assumedly, one of the biggest reasons it took a decade to make Jackass Forever, is likely the process of insuring these guys.
