COVID-19 update: Lockdown in Melbourne extended for another week

This is your update on the Coronavirus in Australia for 11 August 2021.



  • Dubbo in regional NSW goes into lockdown
  • In Victoria five cases are under investigation
  • Cairns emerges from lockdown as planned

Victoria
Victoria has recorded 20 new locally acquired cases, out of which five are not linked to known outbreaks. Six cases were in the community while infectious. 

Premier Daniel Andrews says Melbourne’s lockdown will be extended until at least Thursday 19 August.

New South Wales
NSW has recorded 344 new locally acquired cases, with at least 65 in the community while infectious. Two unvaccinated people died due to COVID-19, one man in his 90s and one man in his 30s who had an underlying health condition.

The Dubbo local government area in regional New South Wales will go into a one-week lockdown from 1pm today after two positive cases are recorded in the region.  

Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant says out of 62 people in intensive care, 57 people are unvaccinated, while five have received one dose of the vaccine.

Queensland
Queensland has recorded four new locally acquired cases linked to known outbreaks and quarantined while infectious.

A three-day lockdown in Cairns and Yarrabah will end today at 4 pm but some .

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young urges children aged 12-15 with serious underlying conditions to register for a vaccine.
