Yamaha XT660Z Tenere Motorcycle Review

There are still real “travelers” in the world who can travel around the world. One of these motorcycles is the Yamaha XT660Z Tenere, which, despite its ordinary appearance and modest technical characteristics, is able to arrange a real adventure for its owner.

Appearance

This bike is a classic touring enduro bike. The motorcycle has a dry and lean silhouette, a developed wing rises above the narrow front wheel, and immediately above it there is a headlight extended in a vertical direction with a massive windshield. In addition, the front fork stays are covered with a special boot for extra protection. The dashboard is simple and laconic, and just above it, there is a regular dough for attaching a GPS navigator.

Part of the motorcycle’s gas tank and the upper part of the engine are covered with decorative plastic panels, but the bottom of the bike is serious. The lower point of the motor is covered with an aluminum sheet of protection, and on the sides of the power unit is protected by safety arches. The bike seat is molded for two people, with the driver and passenger seats separated by a noticeable step. The rear of the bike is also not distinguished by originality, the only thing that gives out a tourist in Tenere is the factory places for attaching the trunks.

Landing

Since a motorcycle of the tourenduro class must have impressive suspension travel, its height must also be impressive. This is why the Yamaha XT660Z Tenere is not suitable for short riders. The saddle height of this bike is 895 mm. However, the landing is almost straight and is great for long journeys. In addition, the bike allows you to ride in a stance, which is necessary when overcoming serious off-road conditions.

Motor and gearbox

The motorcycle inherited the power unit from other Yamaha models. It is a 660cc single-cylinder engine that develops 48hp. at 60 Nm of torque. You can check the exact data by the VIN decoder. Moreover, the thrust of this engine is available from low revs. It is also worth noting that the power unit has liquid cooling, and it is powered by an injector. As for the transmission, it has 5 speeds, and the main transmission is carried out using a chain drive.

Chassis

The Yamaha XT660Z Tenere uses a steel spaceframe as a power structure, to which a telescopic fork is mounted in front with adjustable preload and 210mm travel. At the back is an aluminum swingarm with an adjustable monoshock and 200mm of travel. In general, the suspension is tuned for off-road driving and is able to “digest” almost any irregularities in the road surface.

Brakes

This motorcycle is devoid of such an electronic assistant as the ABS system, but its standard brakes are sufficient for comfortable operation. At the front, the bike has a double disc brake with two pistons per caliper and a single disc brake with one piston at the back.

Driving characteristics

The maximum speed of the Yamaha XT660Z is 160 km / h, but this bike is not well suited for riding at such speeds. The cruising speed of the bike can be considered 100-110 km / h, and in some modes, the motor transmits significant vibration to the entire body of the motorcycle, which significantly loses comfort during long trips. When it comes to cross-country driving, the Tenere has few competitors in its class. It easily overcomes any obstacles, and the soft suspension does not allow the rider to tire quickly in this riding mode.

Travel range

The average fuel consumption of the XT660Z does not exceed 5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, and the size of the fuel tank is 23 liters with 6.7 liters of reserve. Thanks to this, “Tener” can easily travel more than four hundred kilometers without refueling.

Yamaha XT660Z Tenere – this is which, contrary to modern trends, is still capable of any journey.
