Dozens of people have been escorted out of the Ubisoft building in Montreal after police received unconfirmed reports of a hostage situation.

Special forces were called to the building at around 1.30pm after staff reported receiving a text from the company telling them to hide, turn their phones on silent and not speak.

It's unclear what exactly the threat was or where it came from but multiple local outlets described it as a hostage situation.

Employees scrambled to the roof terrace where they waited for news. Some barricaded themselves in a conference room.

Within a few hours, the threat seemed to have been diffused.

According to CTV, an employee 'sent a memo asking staffers to barricade themselves and stay quiet.'

Police are yet to confirm any of the reported details. Special forces teams remain on the scene.

No one has been injured.
