The Mexican town of Caborca was subject to a brutal, sustained and bloody standoff involving the sons of imprisoned Mexican drug lord El Chapo that left two people dead and many more kidnapped.

Word of the drug gangs raid on February 15 had initially been passed to residents of the isolated city through scrambled messages from truck drivers who heard gang members at gas stations brag: "The Chapiza is here: we are coming with everything."

Armed to the teeth with guns powerful enough to take down helicopters, 20 trucks arrived in Caborca to intimidate the rival gangs in the area and lay siege to the town.

Remarkably, nothing was done to stop the convoy of cars entering the town and residents were forced to bombard themselves in their homes and wait out the violence.

The convoy were recorded bragging at gas stations

Speaking to El Pais, one woman said: "There was not a single authority that went out to confront them, they all hid. They abandoned us."

When the convoy arrived, the violence began.

Armed men roamed through the town and searched houses for enemies before executing two men in the street.

Other residents were kidnapped and many people taken that night are still missing.

When the men finally left the town was still reeling from the aftermath of the tragic events with school's closed and an unofficial curfew in place for businesses.

Since their father Joaquín "el Chapo" Guzmán's was arrested his sons have battled amongst each other and the rest of their cartel for power.

The infamous criminal was transferred to Colorado's United States Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility (ADX) - the only federal supermax prison in the US, in July.

He was put on a police helicopter in New York and flown to an airfield, where a plane was waiting to take him to the prison.

Heavily armed guards and dozens of police officers were involved in the transfer, with the authorities making sure there was no chance for El Chapo to escape justice again.

He will live out the rest of his days alongside terrorists, mobsters and intelligence traitors in the Colorado prison.
