Some of the world's wealthiest people have started preparing for Doomsday, including hoarding supplies and building hideouts.

The Daily Star previously reported Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg had drawn up plans for a bunker in Hawaii. The drastic move by the Facebook founder led podcaster Christina Randall to declare the elites might be prepping for a "Biblical prophecy," leaving the rest of us high and dry.

Sam Altman

The OpenAI founder, whose brand created popular chatbot ChatGPT, believes the world could end at the hands of artificial intelligence attacking humans. He also reckons nuclear war or a "lethal synthetic virus" could pose a risk.

To keep himself safe, Altman keeps a stash of the usual Doomsday prepper fare including antibiotics and water as well as some more unusual goods. He told the founders of the startup Shypmate, per the New Yorker: "I try not to think about it too much. But I have guns, gold, potassium iodide, antibiotics, batteries, water, gas masks from the Israeli Defence Force, and a big patch of land in Big Sur I can fly to."

Mark Zuckerberg

The Facebook founder is said to have built a secret bunker under his ranch in Hawaii. Construction on the mystery project was hidden behind a 6ft wall, Wired reports.

Workers were held to strict non-disclosure agreements and those who post about it on social media were removed from the project. David – whose name was changed to protect his identity – told the publication: "It’s fight club."

The tech boss’s hideout is said to boast its own food and energy supply and is reinforced with "blast-proof doors". The project is said to have set him back $270million (£213million).

Idaho's richest man, Frank VanderSloot, is also said to have purchased a 2,000-acre plot of land south of the social media boss' ranch, to the tune of $51million (£40.2million).

Musk recently declared he had created the "finest" defence against the end of the world. The SpaceX boss took to X (formerly Twitter) where he shared a post featuring images of the Tesla Cybertruck – which features armoured glass to guard against those pesky missiles or killer robots.

"Tesla Cybertruck, the finest in apocalypse defense technology!" he captioned the post. On the Tesla website, the vehicle is described as "built for any planet."

In an unknown location in Kansas, US, lies a 15-storey underground bunker kitted out with everything you could need to survive an apocalypse, war or robot takeover. First built in the Cold War, it was designed to withstand a direct nuclear hit.

The blast-proof door to the complex weighs a whopping 50 tonnes. Inside are 14 living units where a total of 75 people can live and store supplies to last them up to five years, reports SuperCarBlondie.

Most of the units have already been sold, and with prices starting at $500,000 (£394,000), it's safe to say the hideouts probably conceal the odd billionaire.

Aside from a storage room the bunker also has a swimming pool, gym and game room.
