ABC News tapped the executive producer of its flagship news broadcast World News Tonight to lead the network.

A spokesperson for the Disney unit confirmed to Mediaite on Monday that Almin Karamehmedovic, a veteran news producer, will lead the network. His appointment comes just a few months after the ouster of Kim Godwin, the controversial president who oversaw a tumultuous era for the institution.

Karamehmedovic cut his teeth at the Associated Press, where he served as a globe-trotting field producer. He joined ABC in 1998, continuing his work as a producer before ascending to the top production job at Nightline. Along the way, he picked up a suite of distinctions, including 14 Emmys and five Edward R. Murrow awards.

He has been executive producer of the David Muir-anchored World News Tonight — the highest rated of the three evening news broadcasts — since 2014.
