‘You Can Clap for That!’ Kimberly Guilfoyle Has Awkward Moment During Speech at Florida Republican Party Gala
Kimberly Guilfoyle experienced a Jeb Bush moment Saturday night at an event in Florida when she reminded guests at a dinner that they could clap for her speech if they felt so inclined.
The fiancé of Donald Trump Jr. was addressing the Florida Republican Party’s annual dinner in Hollywood, Florida when she expressed her hope that Americans would oust Democrats from Congress and the White House in November.
“But I’m here to tell you don’t lose hope. On a personal note, I can tell you that I am as hopeful as ever. Because Americans from all walks of life have had enough of the Democrats’ decline,” Guilfoyle said. “And we are ready, we are willing, and we are able to spark a new era of American exceptionalism.”
Guilfoyle paused and was met with lukewarm applause, prompting her to tell the crowd: “You can clap for that!”
Only a handful of people in the room joined in on the applause.
The moment was reminiscent of a viral campaign trail lowlight for Bush, who was memed into oblivion during his ill-fated 2016 presidential campaign. In Hanover, Iowa in February of that year, the former Florida governor delivered remarks to voters ahead of the caucuses.
“I will not trash talk. I will not be a divider in chief or an agitator in chief. I won’t be out there blowharding, talking a big game without backing it up. I think the next president needs to be a lot quieter but send a signal that we’re prepared to act in the national security interests of this country – to get back in the business of creating a more peaceful world,” Bush said.
When the comment did not elicit a response from those present, Bush said, “Please clap.”
Guilfoyle’s speech was seized on by liberals on social media. Progressive influencer Ron Filipkowski compiled a montage of moments in which Guilfoyle appeared to fail to connect with her audience.
