THE WIFE of UnitedHealthcare's CEO and police sources have claimed he was being threatened before he was fatally shot in a targeted attack.
CEO Brian Thompson, 50, was shot to death by a masked man in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning.
Following the tragic news, Thompson's wife, Paulette, has revealed he had been receiving threats.
"There had been some threats," she told NBC News.
"Basically, I don’t know, a lack of coverage? I don’t know details. I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him."
A police source also confirmed to The New York Times that Thompson was the subject of multiple threats and that cops are investigating exactly what they were and where they came from.

Thompson was shot just after 6:45 am while he was walking into the New York Hilton Midtown, according to the New York Police Department.
Harrowing video taken by Fox affiliate WNYW showed cops desperately performing life-saving measures before racing the CEO to Mount Sinai West Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:12 am.
Thompson was heading to the hotel early to prepare for an investor conference that was starting at 8 am.
The suspected shooter wasn't a hotel guest but was seen milling around the entrance until Thompson arrived, cops said.

The suspect then reportedly opened fire, shooting Thompson twice in the back and calf before bolting from the scene and getting on an e-bike.
The gunman has been described as a light-skinned man wearing a cream-colored jacket, black face mask, and black and white sneakers.
He's about six feet tall with a slim build. He was also seen wearing a gray backpack.
Police said the gunman appeared to have familiarity with firearms based on security footage they say shows him quickly clearing a jam in the gun.
Cops also said it appeared a silencer was used, though they are still working to confirm that information.
No arrests have been made, and a citywide search using drones and K9 units has been launched for the shooter.
UnitedHealth Group statement
UnitedHealth Group, the parent company of United Healthcare, has issued a statement following the fatal shooting of insurance division Brian Thompson.
"We are deeply saddened and shocked at the passing of our dear friend and colleague Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare.
"Brian was a highly respected colleague and friend to all who worked with him.
"We are working closely with the New York Police Department and ask for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.
"Our hearts go out to Brian’s family and all who were close to him.”
Cops are offering $10,000 for anyone with critical information about the murder.
The investor meeting lasted for about an hour until Andrew Witty, CEO of parent company UnitedHealth Group, told attendees they were dealing with a "very serious medical situation."
"As a result, I'm afraid we're going to have to bring to a close the event," he said.
'SILENT GUN'
A witness described the horrifying moment Thompson reportedly crumpled under a barrage of gunfire.
"I wasn't paying attention and then I heard the shot," Amar Abdelmula, a driver who was near the hotel, told WABC. "It was silent gun, black gun."
Abdelmula watched in horror as the shooter ran across the street after firing shots.
"I tried take a picture, but too far away," he said.
"I was shocked. First time I see crime in front of me. I was afraid he shoot me too, my car, I saw everything."
Pictures taken by the Post show a flurry of police activity outside the hotel early this morning.
The shooting took place just four blocks away from Rockefeller Center, where the well-trafficked Christmas tree lighting will be held in just hours.
MOURNING A LOST LEADER
Friends and family are mourning Thompson's death and remember him as a hard worker and dedicated father.
Elene Reveiz, Thompson's sister-in-law, told the New York Times, "He was a good person, and I am so sad."
She said she would be with her sister and their family to comfort them.
Thompson has been with parent company UnitedHealth, one of the largest healthcare providers in the country, for 20 years and has been CEO of its insurance division UnitedHealthcare since 2021.
He lived in Minnesota, where the company is headquartered.
Thompson was scheduled to announce the company's 2025 financial outlook, which was expected to be a hugely profitable year with revenue upwards of $450 billion.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz described the killing as "horrifying news" and said Thompson's death was a "terrible loss for the business and health care community."
