Woods has not featured on the PGA Tour since last July.

Writing on social media, he confirmed: "As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured.

"This morning, Dr Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Pal Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.

"'The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recover,' added Dr Stucken.

Woods had planned to make his PGA Tour return at the Genesis Invitational in February.

He went on to pull out, however, following the sad death of his mother Kultida, aged 81.
