Bookish Spotlight: Anna from The Books in My Lapp

Welcome to a new post series here on Hopelessly Devoted Bibliophile! Back when I first started this blog, I used to interview other bloggers and share their content. I’ve missed doing that so much! It was a great way to get to know others who share the same passion, and give some much deserved love to amazing creators. So, it’s time to do that again! Check this space every other Saturday for a new spotlight, and click here if you’d like to sign up to be a spotlight yourself!

Our spotlight is Anna from The Books in My Lapp!

Instagram | Etsy | TikTok

Not only does Anna have a stunningly colorful Bookstagram account, she’s also a librarian! If you like behind the scenes peeks into the daily life of someone who spreads bookish knowledge, she’s your gal. Plus, lately she’s been publishing some great posts on getting ARCs, and keeping your Instagram photos safe!

Even better, Anna also runs a sweet, bookish Etsy shop where she sells all manner of goodies! Need some magnet bling for your book cart, a bookmark to mark your spot, or some stickers to decorate your new water bottle? She has you covered!

Okay, time for me to stop rambling, and let you all get to know Anna better. Please enjoy a short interview with her below, and don’t forget to take some time to go and visit!

Lightning round questions! Please answer with 15 words or less:

One book I would always recommend is 84 Charing Cross Road – absolutely cozy!

If I had to pick a favorite genre it would be romance because it’s a feel-good, female-focused bundle of joy genre!

I would describe myself as a goofy, coffee-crazed children’s librarian who loves books, hot dogs and the great outdoors!

Can you share why you decided to start a bookstagram/blog?

I started my bookstagram in January of 2019 after I participated in a buddy reads from my personal account. It was so much fun to discuss books and share a love of that online. I have always been a fan of social media and bookstagram was this nerd haven for book lovers and I was hooked!

What is your favorite part about the bookish community?

Hands down I think books make us more empathetic. So many of the conversations on bookstagram revolve around increasing awareness and our worldviews. There’s a lot of good that sharing book love can do.

If we were to peek into your space right now, what collections (other than books of course) would we find?

I love coffee mugs – I have too many in all arrays of colors! You’d also find a pile of stickers and bookish decor. Because I’m a librarian and have unfettered access to free books, I tend to spend my fun money (a budget term my husband and I use lol) on bookish items – be it shirts, candles, trinkets, what have you!  Recently, I’ve started selling bookish merch myself — stickers, magnets & bookmarks — after I wanted more book magnets to decorate my cart with. I keep 1 of every design I make so I have quite a few decorating my space!

Where is your favorite place to read, and what absolutely needs to be there to make it feel perfect?

I am a bed reader – no shame! I need lots of pillows, some soft lighting and a hot beverage! Between my bed and soft couches, I find cozy spots are the best to read in.

Lastly, what is one page (bookstagram or blog) that inspires you and you would LOVE to share with others?

This is such a hard question to answer because there are so many amazing accounts! But one account I have learned so much from in terms of disability awareness is Autumn from @theliteraryheroine – she is a rockstar. She shares the realities of living with invisible illnesses, being queer and she recently started a Patreon account for her writing and advocacy, which is excellent. There are many accounts who amaze me with their advocacy and drive and I am constantly learning and impressed by bookstagrammers who have opened their arms to help us all learn more.

Our next spotlight will be in two weeks! Until then, happy reading.
