Prepared to die…fighting to live.

Savard was in a mood to die, but when a human insists on saving his life, death is no longer an immediate option. He knew of no species – human, vampire, or demon – that could see him while in his invisible Spirit form. Unique to this world, this woman’s singularity was a danger to the entire vampire race.

Waking behind bars in an underground vampire city was not how Sera envisioned her night drive ending. She has come to expect nothing from those who pass through her life, but this man, dying on the side of the road, proves to be different. Savard fights to free her from tyrannical vampire laws and to hide her unique abilities. What Sera doesn’t understand, is why he would fight his growing love for her.

Savard’s haunted past threatens to tear them apart. Soon, Sera discovers just how far her guardian is willing to go, and what he’s willing to do, to keep her safe.

The Review

This review is going to be short and sweet. To start off, this was the first book that I’ve read in this series. There was definitely subtext that the other books in the series might have provided some context to, but overall I think it did fairly well as a standalone story. It wasn’t hard for me to fall into Sera and Savard’s world. Vampires, demons, humans, what more could you ask for?

I really enjoyed the world building and character development in this book. Our heroine Sera is swoon worthy and also a bit pushy, which is my kind of gal. She finds herself in a place she wasn’t expecting, and yet she pushes forward. Of course Sera wants answers to all of the questions that Savard has left her with. It’s obvious to her, and to the reader, that he likes her.

However on Savard’s side, he keeps confusing her with his on again, off again signals. There when she needs him most, and yet not willing to bridge that gap and acknowledge their budding love. It’s not hard to understand Sera’s frustration. The reader is made well aware of how compatible these two could be. The fact of the matter is that there so much chemistry between these two, it oozes off of the page. It’s tantalizing.

A solid 4-star read, for it’s great world building, character development, and ability to be read as a standalone. I’ll need to make time to go back and catch up on what’s happened before, because now I’m intrigued.
