FrequencyCast Interviews Jason Bradbury about Amateur Radio

As part of our coverage of this year’s Gadget Show Live Christmas, we caught up with Channel 5’s Gadget Show presenter Jason Bradbury.

Regular listeners will know that FrequencyCast presenters Pete and Kelly are both licensed “radio hams”, and rather than asking Jason for his views on the latest mobile handsets and tablets, we’d talk to him about the world of amateur radio. Jason holds an amateur radio licence, but his busy TV career and family life means that he doesn’t get to spend much time on the airwaves with his amateur radio callsign. He is still passionate about the hobby though:

“It’s so fun, when you can tune in to Morse code coming out of Europe or Russia… it’s the coolest thing ever.”

We asked Jason to tell us more about why he got into the hobby, and how much of an active amateur he was when he started:

“I was obsessed with it. It’s all I was bothered about. I had loads of different aerials on my roof. I loved it… It was brilliant.”

Our interview is available as an audio or video podcast. Here’s the YouTube clip:

It’s great that Jason is so passionate about the hobby, and it was great to catch up with him, as well as Pollyanna and Jon. You’ll hear more about Gadget Show Live Xmas in our next show, so stay tuned.
