9/13-19 Human Rebellion
Posted: Sun, 30 Aug 2015 20:58:52 GMT
Human Rebellion For groups meeting Sept 13-19, 2015 WELCOME (15 minutes) Ice Breaker: What’s something that’s happened recently to you that caused you to say, “God is good”? WORSHIP (10 minutes) . Sing together #10, “Great Are You Lord” from the 2015 Worship CD. Pause for a moment to let a couple people offer praises to God in prayer WIN (15 minutes) PRAY for your list of unsaved friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family! PLAN any upcoming fun events you can do together to reach out to these people. WORD (25 minutes) Have everyone open their Bibles to Genesis 3 Point #1 – Human rebellion leads us to distrust the goodness of God. Discuss: The serpent introduced doubt about and twisted God’s word! Have someone read Gen. 3:1-7. What happens when we see God more in light of His prohibitions than the freedom He offers? Discuss: Sin begins with doubting God’s goodness! What are some examples of times in your life when you were forced to answer the question “Did God really say…”? Point #2 – Human rebellion ruptures our relationships with God and others. Discuss: Have someone read Gen 3:8-16. The reason we hide from God and each other is the result of sin! List as many ways as possible that we see the rupture of human relationships in our world because of sin. Read aloud: “You’ll never understand sin’s sleight of hand until you acknowledge that the DNA pf sin is deception. Now what that means personally is that as sinners we are all very committed and gifted self-swindlers… We’re all too skilled at looking at our own wrong and seeing good.” – Paul David Tripp Point #3 – Human rebellion results in the shattering of God’s good world! Read aloud: “A lot of people think that sin is: just breaking a rule. What is at stake here is something deeper, bigger, sadder, uglier, more heinous. It is a revolution. It makes me god and thus de-gods God. – D.A. Carson Discuss: Sin dehumanizes us and mocks God’s glory. Have someone read Romans 1:21-23 and talk about how God’s intentions are reversed as a result of our sin. Read aloud: “The fallout from the fall is as intensive as it is extensive. The cancer of sin not only ripples out until it ruins the whole world – proceeding from individuals through society to the rest of creation – but it also wreaks near total devastation on each of us.” – Michael Wittmer Discuss: Have someone read Gen 3:17-24. In order for us to feel the preciousness of the gospel, we must come to grips with the utter destruction that our sin brought into the world. Our rebelling against God not only destroyed our relationship with God and each other, but it also shattered the perfect peace of God’s good world! How does the gospel provide an answer for these realities? Read aloud: “Somewhere in the paradise of Eden the ground drank the blood of the first offering for sin, and from that harmless and blameless creature a coat was made to cover up the shame and the nakedness of the man and his wife. It is a picture of the covering, the atonement, the washing away of our sins in the sacrificial victim on the cross of Calvary.” – W.A. Criswell For next time encourage your people to read: Genesis 4 along with Hebrews 12:24 and 1 John 1:7 WORKS (25 minutes) Break into smaller groups of 2 or 3’s of the same gender to pray for each other! -

Singleness

In the church, sometimes we make people who aren't married feel like the JV team. Like they never really "MADE IT." If you're in your 20s and single, the odds are people ask you all the time, “Are you dating anybody? Do you like anybody? Why not?” And people are well meaning, but the subliminal message is, "When are you gonna get married and actually START your life like the REST of us?" -
