Love Your Unique Mind

I finished chapter four of my book club's selection of A Book That Loves You: An Adventure in Self-Compassion. This was my favorite chapter so far, and I feel like the content was so meaningful!

Favorite bits:

“As much as we prefer to forget those moments when we mess up, reflecting on them can be very good for us and insightful.”

I appreciate the encouragement to accept our stumbles and use them as opportunities to learn. I think this is a real difference-maker in life. I’m grateful that my husband believes in this philosophy and that we were able to raise our children with the mindset that mistakes are not the end of the world.

“Because they believe that progress is driven, in large part, by practice, they naturally regard failure as an inevitable aspect of learning.”

Matthew Syed from Black Box Thinking

This chapter also includes a great section about drawing. The emphasis is on not being afraid to make mistakes and just diving right in to get creative. I think the advice here applies to any creative endeavor!

Want to join this creative journey?

  • Purchase A Book That Loves You: An Adventure in Self Compassion. This is not a book you can borrow from the library because you tear out some pages to make creative and inspirational projects. It doesn’t work on Kindle either for that same reason.

  • Join the online book club and/or follow along here on the blog. You can even subscribe to receive blog posts via email.

  • Take your time with this book. I’m going to work on this book the rest of the month of April. No rush here! I’ll be posting about my activities and learning from each chapter.

  • Do something (or many things) that you learned from the book. The best way to learn is by doing!

  • Share the ideas you learn about with others. Tell your family about what you are reading, post in the book club, or post some thoughts

  • If you have any thoughts you would like to share about the book, feel free to post in the online book club. Or you may enjoy sharing a review on Amazon or Goodreads.
